You might have seen some images passing by on Instagram or on Facebook. Yes, the Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana has launched its very first abaya and hijab collection to target Muslim women. The new line of the fashion house is called : The Abaya Collection: The Allure of the Middle East and it went on sale this month. The collection can be found in the brand's boutiques in the Middle East as well as in selected boutiques in London, Milan and Paris. A lot of neutral colors like black and sandy beige can be found in the Abaya Collection. There's also a lot of use of materials like lace, satin and georgette with prints of daisies, lemons and red roses
I've read several opinions about the hijab collection of several critiques. Some mention that this is just another marketing campaign but let's be honest what in fashion nowadays isn't about marketing and sales?! My personal opinion about this collection is that it's refreshing and beautiful to see this from a luxury fashion house. Besides the collection being delicate and beautiful, I always love to see something ''different'' or something not ''western''. We live in a time right now that our world is so globalized. When it comes to advertorials of high fashion, you tend to see the same thing over and over again. Same size, same skin tone, same hair-color, same length... I'm always intrigued when I see a fusion a two different cultures together because that how our world is now. So what is your opinion about this? Do you feel that other fashion brands should take different cultures into consideration when it comes to new collections & advertisements ?
