4 Easy Steps To Get A Job In RetailTuesday, September 20, 2016
Another thing they love to see is skills that are relevant in the fashion industry. That can be something like blogging, vlogging, photography, make-up artist as a hobby, you name it! They want to know your personality!
One thing you want to avoid is a list of retail shops you've ever worked for in a short period of time. It only give them an idea that you are not reliable and that you're going to stay with them for a short notice. Only put those work experiences on your CV that you've had for a longer period. Ideally 6 months or more.
Going to the shops is really good because it allows you to explore. At times when you drop your CV directly in shops you might get a reply faster than applying online. When you apply online it goes to the HR department first before it gets sent to the right shops that you were applying for. It can take a while. However be aware that some shops will still direct you to their career section online.
Retail is an environment where everything is fast paced and shops are continuously looking for staff however I find September to be a great time to look for jobs in retail. Why? Because the last quarter of the year is the most busiest time for retailers. Shops are already preparing themselves for upcoming promotions like Black Friday and not to forget the most busiest season... Christmas and Boxing Day. Around September and October you will find a lot of vacancies of retailers looking for Christmas temps. They hire temporary staff already during those months so that the temps get enough training and product knowledge before the busy period starts. This is a great opportunity as well to get into retail. It gives you 3 to 4 months experience and you can learn a lot during this period as you will be required to pick up things quickly than usual. Sounds scary but it's not! Hectic? Uhm yes☺. Starting as a temp can help you to eventually get a permanent contract with that particular retailer if they feel you did an excellent job during this busy period of the year!
