3 Reasons Why You Should Go For An Internship In Fashion

Hi guys, I'm back again with a career-focused article. Today I'm going to talk about why you should go for an internship in fashion at least once when you know for sure that you want a career in fashion. The fashion industry is a very competitive environment to get in. One thing that it's highly important is to have valuable experience related to the fashion industry in order to build a name for yourself.

The thing with the fashion industry is that it's very cutthroat. People want to see what you have to bring on the table. You are competing with people who spend thousands of euros/dollars to get into the elite fashion/design schools. But what if you don't have the money to go to a fashion school? Internship! Yes, go for a fashion internship and here's why.

1. Time to boost your CV
People in fashion want to see experience. Well, that the story of any job right. That goes for the fashion industry as well. There are a lot of fashion internships out there. You can find fashion internships at big fashion houses to small start-ups. It all depends on what you are looking for and what skills you want to learn. Internships are CV booster because you can learn new skills, add that company onto your CV and perhaps land your dream job at that company. One thing I've noticed a lot when I was seeking for internships in London is the fact that big fashion houses are not always the most generous when it comes to paying an intern. The majority of the internships that I've come across were unpaid whereas smaller companies would be up for a mediocre compensation. Nevertheless, think about the impact that internship can have on your CV girlboss!

2. Network like a pro
Internships in the fashion industry are a perfect way to improve your networking skills. This is your chance to socialize with buyers, pr managers/assistants, stylists, make-up artists, photographers and bloggers within that environment. Seriously, this is golden because one great connection can open so many doors for your career in fashion or even for your own start-up. So while you doing your internship, try to connect and socialize with the people around you in the office and during events. And don't forget to add them on LinkedIn!

3. Free to experiment
Internships are a perfect way to actually experiment with job functions. Sometimes you might think you want a job in PR but maybe that is not want you want at all or vice versa. It's good to experience how certain jobs are and how a day of for ex. a buyer, marketeer, stylist, editor, or a PR manager/assistant looks like to get an idea of it all. Doing an internship will help you clarify in which field in fashion you actually enjoy the most and where you really want to pursue your career in. It really helped me clarify what I really don't want to be doing and what I would prefer/enjoy doing the most.

That's it for today guys. I hope you will find these tips useful. Tell me, have you considered doing an internship in fashion?
