At It's True Blog we love to put more spotlight on African creatives or people from African backgrounds. We personally think that it's not being put as much in the media as it should be. Well if that's the case, we have a platform so we will do it☺! You might have heard the news... if not, I'm going to tell you! On Monday the British Vogue appointed a new editor in chief. Alexandra Schulman who has been leading the role resigns after 25 years. That's some loooooong years! The person who is taking over the role is the Ghanaian-British Edward Enninful. This is big people!
So let us give you a little background about Edward.. so Edward was born in Ghana but was raised in London with his parents and five siblings. Edward came in contact with the fashion world when he was scouted for a modelling job at the age of 16. By the age of 18, Edward became the fashion director of the young, outspoken and edgy magazine i-D which made him the youngest fashion director appointed for an international fashion magazine.
Edward has has been working for W Magazine since 2011. Ever since he started working as the style director at W Magazine, he contributed to the transformation of this magazine by boosting the ad pages up to 16% in 2012. He also was the contributing editor for American Vogue (2006) and Italian Vogue from 1998. Edward has also done consulting work for brands such as Calvin Klein,Valentino, Dior, Fendi, Gucci and many more. His appoint as the editor in chief will be effective from the 1st of August 2017. Long story short we are really proud of his accomplishment and we will be on the look-out for his work!
